York Stamp & Coin Fair brings specialist dealers and society meetings together

The York Stamp & Coin Fair took place at York Racecourse on 16–17 January. The long-running fair brought together dealers in stamps, postal history, coins, banknotes and medals, and included specialist society meetings with guest speakers.

Admission and parking were advertised as free, and visitors could browse, buy or bring collections for professional valuation. This mix makes the fair useful both to established collectors with precise want lists and to people who have inherited material but do not yet know its scope or significance.

Because the event crosses several collecting fields, visitors may encounter mixed archives in which postal history, paper money, medals and correspondence reinforce one another’s context. A verbal valuation is only a starting point: owners considering a sale should request written terms, understand commission and insurance, and seek more than one view for potentially valuable material.
