Qatar collectors win five medals at Egyphila exhibition in Cairo

The Qatar Philatelic and Numismatic Center reported on 20 September that its collectors won five medals at the Egyphila stamp exhibition in Cairo. The exhibition, organised by the Egyptian Philatelic Society from 17 to 19 September, brought together philatelic societies, individual exhibitors and collectors from across the Arab world.

Qatari participants received awards across a group of postal-history exhibits. “Postal History of Qatar: From Sheikhdom to State (1930–1963)” received a Large Gilt medal, as did “History of Nejd and Hejaz Stamps (1925–1926)” and “Lebanon Covers Held During World War II.” “Postal History of Bahrain” received a Gilt medal, while “History of Libya Stamps” also received a Gilt medal.

The results document competitive recognition for material spanning Gulf postal history, early Saudi Arabian issues, Libya and wartime Lebanese postal history. They also show the Qatar centre participating beyond domestic collecting activities, using regional exhibitions to place specialist collections before international judging panels.

The Qatar Philatelic and Numismatic Center operates under the Ministry of Culture and describes international and regional exhibition participation as part of its work to develop stamp and coin collecting. The 20 September results are a completed-event development: the Cairo exhibition ended on 19 September and the awards were subsequently announced by Qatar News Agency.
