Canada Post issues four-stamp Wolves set highlighting a keystone species

Canada Post issued a new Wolves stamp set on 13 August 2026, using close-up wildlife photography to present four forms found in different Canadian regions: the coastal grey wolf, grey wolf, Arctic grey wolf and eastern wolf. The postal administration framed the issue around wolves’ ecological role as keystone predators and their contribution to ecosystem health and biodiversity.

Andrew Perro designed the issue using photographs by Michelle Valberg, John E. Marriott, Ejaz Khan, Michael Runtz and Steve Dunsford. The booklet cover and interior add photographs of coastal grey wolves on Vancouver Island. Lowe-Martin printed the issue.

The philatelic range includes a booklet of eight Permanent domestic-rate stamps, an Official First Day Cover, a souvenir sheet and four postage-paid postcards valid for worldwide mailing. The first-day cancellation is Whitney, Ontario, close to the east gate of Algonquin Provincial Park, an especially relevant location because the eastern wolf occurs principally in central Ontario and southwestern Quebec.

Canada Post also highlighted distinctions among the animals: the grey wolf is the country’s largest and most widespread wolf; the Arctic grey wolf is adapted to northern conditions; the coastal grey wolf inhabits the Pacific coast and near-shore islands; and the eastern wolf is federally listed as a species at risk. The issue therefore combines wildlife photography with conservation and Canadian ecosystem themes.
