An Post launches Dromcollogher centenary stamp remembering 48 cinema-fire victims

A new Irish commemorative stamp marking the centenary of the Dromcollogher cinema disaster was launched on 3 September 2026, two days before the 100th anniversary of the fire that killed 48 people in County Limerick. The stamp forms part of a wider national programme remembering the tragedy of 5 September 1926 and the families and community affected by it.

Fresh reporting from Limerick confirms that the stamp was launched in Dublin at the General Post Office, with relatives of victims and community representatives present, followed by a second unveiling in Dromcollogher for local residents. The issue had previously been scheduled by the Irish Government and appears in An Post’s 2026 stamp programme as the single-stamp issue “Dromcollogher 1926–2026” dated 3 September.

The design uses an image of a funeral procession through Dromcollogher, connecting the postal issue directly with the aftermath of the disaster rather than depicting the fire itself. Earlier official programme information states that the commemorative stamp is accompanied by a First Day Cover and a special date cancellation. The choice of documentary imagery gives the issue a strong social-history and memorial character.
