Moldova issues National Army 35th anniversary stamp and special postmark

Poșta Moldovei issued a new commemorative stamp on 3 September 2026 marking 35 years since the creation of the Republic of Moldova’s National Army. The issue was launched at Military Camp 142 in Chișinău together with a special postal cancellation titled “Armata Națională – 35 de ani,” creating a coordinated stamp, first-day and postmark release tied directly to the anniversary.

The stamp has a face value of 5 lei and a print run of 25,000. Its design depicts the training and ceremonial uniforms of the 22nd “Blue Helmets” Battalion, established in 1999 within the National Army. Poșta Moldovei says the uniforms were selected to reflect both service identity and the formal representation of the institution. A first day cover was also produced in a notably small quantity of 200 copies.

The postal administration identified Veronica Coroli as the designer of the stamp issue and Mihail Riga as the designer of the special postmark. Both the anniversary postmark and the first-day cancellation were available for use on mail on the day of release. Poșta Moldovei also placed the issue in the context of earlier postal material dedicated to the armed forces, noting that this is the sixth postal issue devoted to the National Army.

For collectors, the combination of a 25,000-stamp print run, a 200-copy first day cover and a dated special cancellation gives the release several distinct collecting components. It is especially relevant to thematic collections focused on military uniforms, peacekeeping, Moldovan state institutions and post-independence national history. The low first day cover quantity may also make that format the most closely watched part of the issue.
