Poste Italiane sets Taranto 2026 philatelic-station and cancellation schedule

Poste Italiane has set out new public-service details for philatelic stations supporting the XX Mediterranean Games in Taranto. According to a company release published by Italian local news outlet Noi Notizie on 27 August 2026, a station operates at the Games’ Fan Village in Piazza Garibaldi from 27 August through 1 September, opening each evening from 18:00.

Visitors can buy the stamp and related philatelic products created for Taranto 2026 and obtain a special cancellation. For the closing ceremony on 3 September, Poste Italiane plans two further philatelic stations at Stadio Erasmo Iacovone from 16:00. The notice therefore provides collectors with defined places and times for acquiring event material and serviced souvenirs during the final phase of the Games.

The underlying stamp was issued on 21 August and presented aboard the Italian Navy training ship Palinuro at the quay beside Taranto’s Aragonese Castle. A dedicated folder and special postmark accompanied the issue. The new announcement concerns access to the temporary stations rather than a second stamp issue. It also says the Taranto 2026 products are available through post offices in Taranto and the surrounding province.

Event cancellations connect a postal item to a particular venue and date, making them especially relevant to thematic collections of sport, Mediterranean cooperation and host-city history. The combination of a previously issued stamp, a Fan Village service point and closing-ceremony stations gives collectors several opportunities to create legitimately serviced material tied to different stages of the event.

The published release does not identify the exact counter positions inside the Fan Village or stadium, the closing time of each service, stock levels, product prices or whether mail-in cancellation requests are accepted. Collectors attending in person have confirmed evening opening information for Piazza Garibaldi and a 16:00 start at the stadium on 3 September, but should allow for access controls associated with the sporting venues.
