Ukrposhta expands Ukrainian Song series with two new stamps

Ukrposhta issued two stamps in its Ukrainian Song series on 17 August 2026, coinciding with Ukrainian Song Day. The titles translate as “Lullaby” and “As If the Viburnum Were Dressed for a Wedding.” The issue turns two familiar strands of Ukrainian musical culture—the intimacy of a lullaby and the imagery of a well-known romantic song—into postal designs intended for nationwide use and collection. It continues an established series rather than beginning a separate musical programme.

The designs are based on works by artist and icon painter Polina Myalkovska. “As If the Viburnum Were Dressed for a Wedding” takes its title from a line in the song “Cheremshyna,” written by Mykola Yuriichuk with music by Vasyl Mykhailiuk. Ukrposhta describes the “Lullaby” design as evoking the warmth and calming atmosphere of childhood and creating an imaginative space free from anxiety.

Each stamp carries the letter-rate denomination F and is supplied in a sheet of six. Ukrposhta states a print quantity of 300,000, although the product description does not separately clarify whether that figure applies to each design or to the combined postal set. The official postal set contains one sheet of each design together with a first-day cover. Ukrposhta also lists a C6 first-day envelope created by Myalkovska and dated 17 August 2026.

The release is philatelically significant because it documents living song traditions through contemporary visual art rather than treating music only through portraits of performers or composers. Viburnum carries a strong place in Ukrainian cultural imagery, while lullabies preserve language and family memory through oral transmission. The designs therefore connect music, folklore, childhood and national identity in a format that can circulate through ordinary mail. Used examples may eventually add a postal-history dimension to material initially marketed as a collectable set.

Collectors should distinguish the two separate stamp sheets, the combined postal set and the first-day envelope when describing holdings. The official product page confirms the date, denomination, sheet size, artist and stated quantity but does not show complete printing, perforation or paper specifications. Those characteristics remain to be established from a formal bulletin or examination of issued material.
